Saying Goodbye to the old year

What a turbulent year, full of uncertainties about the crisis all over the world. Lots of goodbyes and transitions , storms and civil wars. But most of all meeting lots of people with same interest, popping up from nowhere and suddenly dealing likes and dislikes and sharing knowhows. Some people come to stay and some was gone for good. The most important thing is knowing there is one we can always rely on. No matter what.

And the best has yet to come.

Still making list for 2014

Photos of Ann Logan

I wish to stitch this pattern made by Ann. I've been looking forward to stitch some iconic figure in my life.
Queen Maxima is such a good example. I have done a photo of Princes Di, but I had given it away already.

Thanks to Ms Ann Logan, Click Bohol Philippines for the free pattern. I hope to be able to do this sometime sooner.

Have to work overtime today

Spending my last 2013 sunday snuffling on my thread stashed so that I do not have to buy same color for these summer project I have in hand . Instead of making list for new years resolution as I always do before. Here I am making list for my next and unfinished projects for 2014.

And here are what I wished I'll be able to start around summertime. I may not forget that my secret garden number 3 needs a few more stitches. I love making plans, and I really love it when I can make it happen. Why not dreamed about?

Merry Christmas to all

It came without ribbons!  It came without tags!  It came without packages, boxes or bags!"...

Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!  "Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store.

Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more!"

Just finished packing my baggage

Its first time ever that I haven't focused myself on what to make for Christmas eve. First time ever that I write Christmas cards just for a few  people who really closed to me. Since the aftermath of the storm became visibly horrid and the war in Syria is still going on. I decided not to make a lot of fuss over the holidays. I thought about reflecting and pray everyday for the unfortunate people who could not have a chance to buy themselves a Noche Buena. I have made a  decision to spend what I normally give for presents to a worthy cause. When all the papers are done and its official, I would probably tell more about it.

But now I would like to show what I have been up to lately. Going home to the Philippines means a lot to me. Every time our booking is confirmed, I began buying things and presents so that It would not tighten my budget all at once. My baggage is always to the limit, thanks to the 30 kilo allowance this time. We are flying with Ethad that's why. As always, I don't bring much clothes from here 'cause, clothes are cheaper down there. But sometimes, I wanted to wear house dress just like the old times and because everybody does. (the women) I thought about sewing some for myself, of course  one of the main reason is to show off to my sisters that I can already sew (lol).

This is what we called  "Duster". I'm not really sure but I think it usually should be worn when cleaning or dusting. It has become a natural habbit of the women to wear some kind of dress like this because its comfortable due to the warm temperature.

And here are what I made out of scraps for some kids in the neighborhood. Its not really easy sewing children's clothes when one is only guessing for their sizes. But I hope to get better ideas next time.

The Lord is Counting on (me) you

One of my Precious moments collection finished first week of November.

I'm still finishing some sewing projects for kids at home in the Philippines. Probably finished tomorrow plus among other things to sort out, then I'll go back stitching the days away before we go on 6 months vacation. I really should dig out my handwork boxes to count my UFO's. Actually I have mountains of work yet to be done and hobbying should be set aside, but in times like this when its cold and dark outside, there is nothing so especial than counting stitches for me.

My new avatar

I've just finished this cute PM which I will be using as my avatar for 1 year as my salute to the people in my homeland.

Moving on

Its a bit slow here with me, I have yet to find more energy to get loads of things done, but I'm getting on my focus back. People are getting more help down there in my homeland and they are starting to move on. There is no reason to stay unhappy and sit around waiting for the next disaster to come. Moving on is the best way to forget.

This is my current WIP, designd by Gloria and Pat for Precious moments.

Inspired by the courage and resiliency my countrymen have shown during ang after the storm Haiyan. Lots of people are homeless but not hopeless. I'll be finishing this piece tomorrow and this will be my avatar for the whole year, remembering my land and Kbabayan.

7 Days sewing for myself - Day 1

Can't wait for sewing class to begin. I'll start today for simple crafts and I'll do the last project I have in mind  in the class next tuesday. I'm pretty sure I could use some help from my classmates and teachers.

I would like to make these list this week.

  • Celphone pouch
  • Sewing machine bag
  • Something for the home (new pillow cases, etc)
  • Shopper's bag/or perhaps a body bag
  • Winter pyjama/ peasants dress
  • SAL - Stitch-Along needle case/ cat
  • Bible pouch
  • SAL - Sew Along
I should deligently try my best, because starting the 2nd week of September I'll be working on projects for someone else. And of course its going to be cleaning and putting away summer things and getting ready for autumn and winter.

I'll make my first ever handmade CP pouch today, and start with my needle case SAL.

Fresh Start like a school kid

Started so early with my Domestic duties and now I am preparing my New september SAL before I go to my volunteer works. So that I can start when I come back. My Inspired stitcher's group will be making a Needle book. Yesterday I have no idea how to make one, then I google it and came across lots of beautiful sites. Have a look at this , pretty amazing what inspiration we could find everywhere, when we set our minds on it. zillions of ideas on the net. With a bit of our own creativity and what ever materials we stacked up in our closet, it could be real fun. Got to go for now, Its gonna be a long day but I like it very much.

Ending my busy summer with a HUGE CLEAN UP

Summer 2013 was never before soooo self centered than ever. I was mostly at home, I ditched the usual short trips here in there, I joined hobby clubs, I read lots of blogs, I've sewn lots of things for my own use. I made lots of apologies to people for not coming to visit. I've watched the full episodes of The bleak house and I will watched tonight the ending of 'De erfenis'. Two whole months of Staycation and doing things for my own is finally ending today.

Vacation is over and tomorrow I'll be back to my volunteer job, which is helping co-volunteers preparing things for less fortunates ones. I suppose,I'ts gonna be a busy day. Thursday begins the sewing class. I can't wait to see new crafty people whose eager to learn more about sewing as I do. Got to clean up this blog also, because I'll start a new september SAL on tuesday and from now on I will try to work on themes and schedules. Filling in blanks and holes of UFO'S (unfinished Objects) got to have a chance from time to time. And there's no other way to be able to do it than put it on the agenda.

UFO's to finish this month

31 August 2013

Had a hard time searching my own post

I guess its time to label my post properly. It defeats the purpose of blogging ang making accounts of finish projects if I can't find it myself. A bad and a good sign of scattered thoughts waiting to be straightened out. I got to put it on my today's list.

Anyway, I got this message from a belgian friend. Maria,

She says: Ik lees uw blog graag, maar u maakt het nog moeilijker dan het al is. She means, she read my blog but I am making it difficult than it already is.

that's why I am searching for a post where I have tried to write  in Dutch. Another homework to do. : Belofte's maak men schuldig.

Taking care of patterns

This tips appears on my FB timeline today via Burda. I been doing this  tips evensince I started collecting patterns (3 years or so ago). It proves very useful co'z no matter how iterested I am in doing new things and new design, I always go back to the patterns which end product I have sewn and wear lots of time. I kept mine in a ring binder and label it accordingly.

These are my favorites:

26 August 2013

Threads and needle craft has just arrived.

New threads has just arrived and its time to sort out my UFO's. According to my inventories I have 3 big unfinished scenery projects, 4 stitch-a-Photo, 6 small ones and 3 SAL.Plus projects from friends who have lost interest in completing their unfinished pieces. I guess I'll have lots of UFO's to last for a lifetime. And there's my dressmaking obsession on the side and a husband who self appointed me as his secretary pretending he doesn't have any understanding about internet and constantly asking me to look at this and that. There is really no time to waste doing nothing at all.

19 August 2013

Filling holes and salvage week

Got to catch up on my needle craft this week and start working on my unfinished sewing projects. While waiting for threads I ordered from PH, its gonna be filling in holes this week. My UFO'S should be finished within a year, so I shall try not to start bigger things fr awhile. But Stitiching-Along with cross stitch friends is so fun, I am always inspired to join. No matter hectic, it keeps me going.

Berry Busy

Domestic duties called for a ceasefire with my needlecraft. Hubby was on call with his music club for two weeks and appointed me as guardian to his offsprings. Thank heavens, rains pour down a bit today. The remaining berries should be ready next week:

Not so good year for our blue berries this year. Because the long winter period was really bad for them. But we still have lots of jams from last year.
Some berries set apart for the freezer

Our muscat grapes is really good as always, but it requires a lot of pruning.

This is my husbands hobby garden. I am only allowed to take photos and water them when he is not around.

Thanks to the warm weather, Oscar is done, next step is find a spot where he can sit or hang himself forever.

Wash a day

Weatherman says its going to be a tropic temperature today. So what a good excuse to be up and about so early and have the wash and  a quick dusting done. Oscar the owl will be accompanying me in my garden shade until the sun comes down. Then we are going to look for a new friend for him.
